A 32-year old herder named Muhammadu Abubakar was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder on Tuesday by a high court in Ekiti state.
Muhammadu was charged for two different charge, he was found guilty of attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms. Found in his possession was a gun and cartridges.
The offence is contrary to the provision of section 320 of the criminal code law.
The prosecution called witnesses who testified against him. One of the witness said he was gazing on the farm land without permission and he was questioned. He got angry because he was questioned and he pulled out a gun and shot at the people that questioned him. Fortunately for them, they were able to miss the shots. Soon he was overpowered by the people in the community and he was handed over to the police while he was trying to escape.
The Judge while giving his verdict, Justice Adekunle Adeleye sentenced him to life imprisonment on the first count for attempted murder and 10years imprisonment on the second count which is illegal possession of firearms
