A man named Sanjo in Oshogbo Osun state has beaten his child to death over persistent crying. The state commissioner for women, children and social affairs Olubukola Olaboopo said the man has been handed over to the police.
The commissioner stated that they got wind of the incident via a source and they promptly took action.
According to Sanjo ” he and his wife got married 2008 and had five children. It was the third I beat to death”. He said his wife left the child with him and the child would not stop crying. He said he tried all possible means to make the child stop crying but the child would not. He said something came upon him and told him to beat the child which led to his unintentional killing of the child.
He said he and his wife buried the child in his farmland.
But the statement the wife gave while she was been interrogated was different. She claimed that four out of five children had died.
She said she and her husband collaborated to kill two of her children due to poverty and dumped one child around the Osogbo Technical School area.
The state commissioner warns that the state would not condone any act of violence and child abuse and anyone caught would face the wrath of the law.
