GOVERNMENT SHUTS LAGOS SCHOOL OVER ALLEGED FLOGGING OF A MINOR

The Lagos state government have reportedly closed Unic Vilos Montessori school after a two-year-old pupil was allegedly flogged mercilessly by her teacher.

According to Channels TV, Folashade Adefisayo, the State Education Commissioner, confirmed that the ministry of education ordered the closure of the school.

Adefisayo revealed that the affected school is operating without a permit. She also said that the State government is taking action against such institution that are operating without permit.

On Friday last week, a relative of the pupil claimed that the unidentified teacher had “vigorously whipped” the girl. “because she couldn’t recite the English alphabet.

The incident resulted in a wave of criticism on social media platforms, with several Nigerians condemned the teacher’s actions.

In response, Jubril Gawat, special assistant for media to Lagos State Governor – Babajide, said the case was already under investigation.

According to him, the matter is being examined by a joint team from the ministries of education, justice and, youth and social development. The incident happened around the same time one teacher from Delta State was accused of “violently flogging” a 19-month-old student. It was said that the little boy had died a few days after the alleged incident.
