Ebonyi APC rejects court judgement sacking Gov Umahi, deputy over defection

According to NATIONAL ACCORD, Governor Umahi was fired on Tuesday following a court ruling on his defection from the PDP to the ruling APC.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki in response to the court’s ruling, the APC Chairman of Ebonyi State, Mr Stanley Okoro-Emegha, said the presiding judge erred in his decision, which he described as an abuse of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.

Okoro-Emegha stated that a High Court in Abakaliki, as well as in Zamfara state, had already ruled that a serving Governor or his Deputy could not be sacked from office for defecting to another party.

The Chairman urged members and supporters of the Governor to remain calm and law-abiding, adding that the decision would almost certainly be appealed.

The decision was clearly biased, which is unacceptable.

“There is no need to panic because the decision will almost certainly be appealed.” “All APC members and Governor supporters are advised to remain calm and law-abiding,” he said.
